April was an incredibly volatile month across the portfolio, eventually finishing with a small profit of +1.99 points to BSP. System 1 was the standout performer, returning an excellent +36.39 points, while Systems 2, 3 and 4 all finished the month in the red. Despite some significant swings throughout April, the portfolio ends the month just about on the right side of breakeven.

The final +1.99 points doesn't really tell the story of April. The portfolio climbed to more than +30 points early in the month before giving those gains back, recovering again and eventually finishing almost exactly where it started. System 1 was comfortably the strongest performer at +36.39 points, offsetting losses across the other three systems. After four very different months to begin 2026, the portfolio remains essentially flat for the year. It's another useful reminder that results rarely arrive in a straight line and that judging performance over short periods can give a very different picture depending on when you look.
Looking Ahead to May
April's +1.99 points moved the overall 2026 portfolio from -0.47 points to +1.52 points YTD. System 1 now leads the year at +22.14 points, followed by System 3 at +15.01 points. System 2 sits at -17.92 points, with System 4 at -17.71 points. Despite considerable movement within the individual systems, the combined portfolio therefore finishes the first four months of 2026 almost exactly at breakeven.

Four months into 2026 and the portfolio sits at +1.52 points, but that figure hides a considerable amount of volatility along the way. We've experienced strong profitable periods, significant drawdowns and subsequent recoveries, all within a relatively short timeframe. April itself demonstrated exactly that. The approach remains unchanged: follow the established rules, avoid reacting to short-term results and continue allowing the long-term data to build. Sometimes consistency simply means accepting the volatility and carrying on.
